The story of Rafting in Albania

It was the year 1985 when Zamo Spathara together with a group of friends went to Hambull village of Berat province in the edge of Osumi River. A little adventure took off with spare wheels from vehicles, crossing for the first time Osum Canions, a fairytale place with a virgin nature and marvelous beauty. It was exactly this little adventure that made a big dream come true creating the first group of Rafting in Albania: Albania Rafting Group! Having gone through thousands of difficulties, this group, with a passion for this sport continues with daring explorations in Valbona, Buna, Drin, Shkumbin, Vjosa River…

In 1991 Zamo Spathara went to exile in Italy where he continued his passion for Rafting Sport by taking part in “Gruppo Canoe Terni” Training, who not only licensed the first Rafting Group in Albania but in the 1993 they were made principal supporters of Albania Rafting Group with its first proper equipment (canoes, flippers, raft bats, paddles, diving suits, pressure suits, life jackets).

This group took the attention of national media, who launched a campaign “the discovery of the century” with an aim of showing another Albania. Top Channel, TVA, Tv Klan, Tv Koha, Tv Ora News, Tv Vizion Plus without missing in foreign media programs like Sky TV, Italy 7 and ZDF.
No doubt dozens of publications are not lacking exclusively for Albania Rafting Group in the press: Magazines: "Albanian Tourism ", , Journal "Republika", Journal "Ndryshe", Journal "Metropol", Journal "Panorama", Globe "Magazine", year 2011 and up in the press abroad that will give a new image of her in USA, Slovenia, Italy, Germany etc..

Albania Rafting Group has participated in numerous exploration around the world as the White Drin river in Kosovo, La Nera River and cascade Marmore Terni in Italy, the river Soca, Bovec in Slovenia, the Futaleufu River in the pound, the river Vardar in Macedonia.
Albania Rafting Group has accompanied in Osum Canions not only Albanians but also citizens from all over the world. Well-known personalities have called them “The miracle of Europe”.
Nowadays, Albania Rafting Group is expanded and is widely known. With a dedicated staff, its members are people with passion for rafting from Albania as well as abroad.
